International Peace Day in Om Ashram
On 21st September 2014 the international Om Ashram community, with members from 15 countries from all over the world, joined the United Nations International Peace Day initiative under the auspices of the Sri Swami Madhavananda World Peace Council.
Prayers for world peace were held near the peepal and banyan peace trees, planted two years ago on India's Independance Day and also birthday of Om Ashram founder H.H. Vishwaguru Mahamandaleshwar Paramhans Swami Maheshwarananda Puriji Maharaj. Ashram students chanted peace mantras from the Upanishads and lit deepaks, oil lamps, for peace and harmony in the world. Members of all ashram departments and international yoga students happily joined in with these peace efforts. It was a joyful meeting of generations, nations and cultures following the fundamentals of "Unity in Diversity".
